History of the Regional Enterprise Tower
Xplorion is located on the ground floor of the Regional
Enterprise Tower, the historic former headquarters of Alcoa Inc. Through the
efforts of former Alcoa chairman Paul O'Neill, Alcoa donated the building to
the Southwestern Pennsylvania Commission in 1998 when Alcoa moved its headquarters
to Pittsburgh's North Shore.
As the world's first aluminum-clad skyscraper, the building has always been
a local landmark. Today, the Regional Enterprise Tower also has the distinction
of being one of the first buildings in the nation devoted to economic development.
The Tower is home to dozens of organizations whose mission is to advance the
economic, educational, cultural, artistic, and recreational development of the region.
